To be honest, I don’t send out emails often. But on those rare (okay, more than rare) occasions that Facebook has gotten sick of me acting right you can find new announcements, special promos, freebies and other cool drops right in your inbox.

Did I mention freebies? Like exclusive sneak peeks at chapters of my new book, From The Desk of Jenn: All Roads Lead to Here, first access to work before it’s published and other stuff that only mailing list subscribers get access to.

A Journey To Winning | Writing Saved My Life

October 31, 2012 was the day my life ended and started again. Just a year shy of having moved to Dallas, Texas I made the decision to walk away from my marriage of seven years after years of trying to make it work. Now alone, isolated in a strange new city with no friends or family present for support I found myself at a crossroads. A newly divorced and now single mother of one toddler I was was unsure of everything. Suddenly, and without much warning or preparation, I found myself engulfed by old hurt, anger and pain that I never fully recovered from.  Tragedies of the past and old feelings of abandonment began to rise and suddenly with this “failure” under my belt sent me on a rollercoaster ride of depression. Feeling unaccomplished and empty, I knew that I had to do something and fast. Therapy was out of the question so I began the journey of self-healing and clarity through study + daily life practice.

Drawing from my own life's story, I use my experiences as the basis of my writing to ensure that I am providing realistic and relatable content. Known throughout social media as "Jenn Renee", I typically divide my time between raising my daughter, pursuing entrepreneurial goals,  finishing my two books and delivering fresh, gag-worthy content. In January of 2016, I took a bold step in a new direction by revealing and sharing my personal story which to my surprise was well received. I created From The Desk of Jenn as a personal and self-accountability diary to help document my mental + emotional growth over time. After over 100,000 shares I realized that the fight against the oppression of Black women in America and my personal experiences to recover and regain my independence, sexuality and freedom was a shared one earning me a following over 30,000 in less than one year.

My creative work has been featured and recognized by NecoleBitchie/xoNecole, Demetria Lucas, D.L. Hugley, Baller Alert, Boyce Watkins, J’Adore Magazine, BlogHer, ThisIsYourConscience, Social Media Samurai, HipHop News 24-7 and more. I am the winner of two weblog awards in 2012 for "Best New Entertainment Blog" and "Best New Lifestyle Blog" for my work as Editor in Chief and Founder of Love My Black.
